​ The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies have released the 54th issue of the quarterly peer-reviewed journal Tabayyun, dedicated to Philosophical Studies and Critical Theory. This special issue is titled “Social Media: Philosophical Approaches to Ethics, Politics, and Identity” and contains the following studies: “Ethics, Politics, and Social Media: The Scope of Ethical Responsibility in Political Interaction”, by Youssouf Zedam; “Surveillance and Control in Social Media: A Critical Study”, by Naceur Amara; “The Post-Panoptic Age and the Emancipation Dilemma: From Surveillance towards Automation Societies”, by Ayoub Dehegani;  “Social Networks and Political-Ethical Challenges in the Wake of Artificial Intelligence”, by Salah Osman, “Privacy and Digital Security in Social Media” by Saadia Bendenia; and “Social Media Technology and the Critique of Gender Ideology in Kathleen Stock’s Philosophy”, by Michael Medhat. 

In addition to the themed articles, the issue features Mohamed Kanjaa’s study “The Dialectic of Sovereignty and Law: Hart’s Critique of Austin’s Command Theory”. The reviews section contains three book reviews: Sherif Saad Attia’s review of Islam and Liberal Citizenship: The Search for an Overlapping Consensus by Andrew F. March; Ehsan Ali Al-Haidari’s review of Ethics in the Conflicts of Modernity by Alasdair MacIntyre; and Achraf Tahria’s review of La langue de Zemmour by Cécile Alduy. The issue concludes with four overviews of recent publications prepared by the editorial board.
