Book Review - A Reading of Abdel-Aziz Lamoul’s “The Categories in the Philosophy of Ibn Rushd”

Categories in the Philosophy of Ibn Rushd by Moroccan researcher Abdelaziz Lamoul aims to show that the examination of the "Categories" is not restricted to practitioners of formal logic. Rather, he argues, it extends into the fields of natural science and metaphysics. He concludes this methodologically through Ibn Rushd's contemplation of the body, which enables him to consider the richness of the thinker's philosophical practice. The author finds that the Categories instituted a distinctive ontology. He states, "The final outcome is that it is not possible to achieve philosophical research or work without looking at the Categories and their own attributes, because the Categories played a major role in constructing Ibn Rushd's philosophy in logical, scientific, and metaphysical terms."
