Volume |Issue 26| Autumn 2018 |Articles

Abstract

This paper studies the folklore, customs, traditions, and other manifestations of popular heritage. Through these expressions many patterns, principles and values are manifested in an understandable vernacular. The study takes an argumentative perspective to examine the abstract cultural phenomena that are based on popular Tunisian proverbs and other popular literary and cultural forms such as poetry, song and storytelling that encourage a strong work ethic. At the same time, the study is concerned with some literary aspects of popular culture and seeks to analyze Tunisian aphorisms that relate to work in order to better understand the social environment, values and heritage of the society that produced them. It investigates the signals compliance with cultural traditions on the one hand, and the implications of changing traditions in Tunisian society.
