Book Review: The Discourse of Dignity and Human Rights By Raja Bahlul

Volume |Issue 26| Autumn 2018 |Book Reviews

Abstract

In contemporary Arab thinking, there is no philosophical perspective on the question of human rights. There are mostly attempts to rationalize human rights through the prism of our own traditions, aspirations, and identity. In contrast, Raja Bahlul's book, The Discourse of Dignity and Human Rights, is a foundational contribution to this critical subject in contemporary Arab culture. The book consists of seven chapters as well as an introduction, and a symbolic forward entitled "Dignity and the Wandering Vegetable Vendor".
