Thoughts: Reflections on Pascal’s Pensées

Volume 4|Issue 16| Spring 2016 |Book Reviews

Abstract

Pascal's Pensées (Thoughts) is a seminal text of the modern Western philosophical canon. An understanding of this text is crucial to a grounded knowledge of global philosophical thinking, and is a must for any serious reader who aims to acquire a deep and meaningful understanding of the interplay between religious theology and philosophy. This is a particularly pressing concern in light of the massive transformations being witnessed worldwide today; in the midst of these dramatic changes, a critical, sober and thorough understanding of the pioneers of modern philosophy is now an epistemological necessity. Such an understanding will do much to further the aim of "philosophy for all" and the right of all to philosophy.
