The Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) has published the seventeenth issue of its peer reviewed, quarterly journal Tabayyun, a journal devoted to philosophy and cultural studies. This issue is devoted to the theme of "The Question of Freedom in Contemporary Arab Thought" and features the following contributions; Raja Bahlul's "Freedom and Impediment to Action: Foundations for a Liberal Concept of Freedom in the Arab Thought", followed by Monji Serbaji's "What Does it Mean to Reflect on Freedom in the Arab Context?", Frederic Maatouk's "Assabiyyat [Partisan feelings]: Predators of Political Freedoms"; Muhannad Mustafa's "Politics of Recognition and Liberty: Debate and Theoretical Framework in the Current Arab Context".
The research papers included in this issue feature Mohammed Essadki's "Evil and its Place in the Metaphysical View of the Word According to Avicenna" and Georges Canguilhem's "What is Scientific Ideology", translated by Elias Hassan. The regular from the library section contains Mohamed Mesbahi's "Allegories and Interpretation: Between the Need of Hiding the Truth Signification and the Duty of its Elucidation According to Maimonides" and Thaer Deeb's translation of "Liberalism and Democracy in the Thought of John Rawls: A Reading of Contemporary Trends in the Philosophy of Justice". The discussions and book reviews section contains reviews by Taher Kanaan's "Market Triumphalism: The Threat of Market Values on Social Values"; Djaouida Ghanem's "Critical and Prospective Visions of Colonialism and Post-Colonialism: Between Shakib Arslan and Edward Said", and Abdelouahed Ait Zine's "Djait's Criticising the Obviousness of Oracle (al-Wahy)". In closing, the seventeenth issue of Tabayyun includes a report by Brahim El Kadiri Boutchih on the Fifth Annual Conference on the Social Sciences and Humanities in Doha on March 12-14, 2016 entitled "The Question of Freedom in Contemporary Arab Thought.
